Wrapping Up My Time in Bangkok

February 2021

Bangkok is a vibrant, diverse, and exciting city. Waiting for my visa extension kept me rooted longer than expected, but had a great five weeks there post quarantine.

In Buddhist culture, the day of the week you were born on has meaning.  I was born on a Saturday, so my lucky colors are purple and black, this works out perfectly being a Baltimore Ravens fan. The Saturday Buddha posture is the Buddha protected by the Naga, and I am destined to be calm, logical, and a bit of a recluse.

Offerings for the dead.

Love the charming restaurants you can easily find all over Thailand. Lots of plants and running water.

Temples and floating markets are a quality and common combination.

Lots of fish to feed!

And birds…

And rabbits…

And turtles…

And some incredible Cannon Ball Trees.

The Khlong Bang Luang Floating Market is well worth a visit.

Pad Thai cooked on a boat.

Adventure on, took a boat down the river to see some temples and plants.

Free beaded bracelet workshop.

Thailand is a magical place.

Pretty interesting how they grow.

This plant cost 80 baht, I only had 100 baht bills, and this man did not have a 20. It was a major ordeal trying to convince him to keep the change.

A little sour, grateful for my coconut.

Some popular pick up sports.

In this one, they juggle the ball with anything but hands, while trying to get it through a hoop.

Like volleyball without hands.

Foreigners playing basketball.

Street soccer.

Skateboarding is becoming very popular here.

You see a lot of positive messaging all around.

Really like the philosophy of this place.

We are going places.

Boat taxi to Wat Arun.

Dinner and mocktails overlooking Wat Arun.

The Ancient City is a massive park of famous replica buildings. I’m a fan.

Stop, women should be respected at all times.

Was surprised to see a sign like this. Previously, I had only see this sort of thing in majority Muslim countries.

This peacock sure is peacocking. Only the males have colorful feathers for attracting a mate. You can see a female peacock on the left.

Japanese hot pot.

Thai BBQ after getting whooped by a girl in badminton.

I love Thai food too.

This church is also part of a school. I was actually there at school dismissal and this tuk tuk was there to take kids home.

Checked out the River City art gallery and an impressionist exhibit.

Chinese New Year at Iconsiam

Chinese New Year in Chinatown.

Making a peanut sweet with a war-hammer.

Chinese music is written completely differently.

A friend and I walked 20 minutes to this famous croissant shop three times. Every time they were closed, sold out, or filming a TV show. Still waiting to try their croissants.

A reminder of the other places I have lived. Bourbon St. from New Orleans and a Porsche from Stuttgart.

Had a blast at the bounce house.

I like to travel with games and books.

Cook Tuk

Bangkok is a big city was a lot of fun things to do and beauty to behold.
