Popping into Paris

April 2019

Paris is a special place. I love walking through the parks, museums, and down the boulevards. There is great food, fine art, and amazing architecture.

I got on a train in Stuttgart at 7am on Saturday and was in Paris by 10am. I had 4 hours to enjoy before checking into my hotel, so I decided spend some time in illustrious company. This was my first time in a wax museum. I creepily looked at a few people trying to figure out if they were real, they were.

It was funny watching this guy brush her hair to get it just right.

I love walking through cities without concern for a particular destination. I do not know anything about this church, but it was pleasant to stumble upon.

Lots of nice little shops with beautiful displays.

So many awesome hidden passages ways with gems like this restaurant and funny little shops.

This definitely goes down as one of my most enjoyed solo meals. Such a beautiful place to sit, read, and eat.

This is the Tuileries Garden, it is in front of the Louvre.

Having just taught a unit on Greek and Roman mythology, it was fun seeing all these classical statues.

Julius Ceasar: Roman general and politician who played a crucial role in ending the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire.

Hercules: Mythical hero, son of Zeus, famous for being in a Disney movie and completing the 10+2 labors.

Alexander the Great: One of histories greatest conquerors, despite dying at 32.

Pericles: Great Athenian statesman who was highly influential in fostering democracy and developing the Acropolis.

Crow: Fond of bread crumbs and pooping on priceless objects.

Joan of Arc: at age 19 she fought to liberate the French from the English during the 100 years war.

Interesting pointy thing.

A great line. Behind me is The Louvre, in front of me is the Arc de Triumph (in the distance).

I am a fan of the pyramid.

Buy your tickets for The Louvre online to skip the line. You can do this right before you walk in. It was puzzling to see so many people waiting in a line they did not have to be in if they were smart enough to use their smartphones for things other than entertainment for waiting in line.

Napoleon: Conquered much of Europe shortly after the French Revolution, which took place shortly after the American Revolution.

Lady Peace. If more ladies were in charge we probably would have more peace.

Ornate shield with a depiction of Medusa.

Napoleon III’s apartment is perhaps the most miraculous room I have ever seen.

The Louvre is massive! I have been three times and have maybe seen half of it.

This is the famous Venus de Milo (The Greeks called her Aphrodite). It is lovely, but I really do not understand why some pieces are so much more famous than others.

Rode a bird (electric scooter) down the Seine to Notre Dame. These electric scooters were all over the place. It is such a fun, fast, and affordable way to get around. This was taken one week before it burned down.

Kickin it with Charlemagne. First Holy Roman Emperor, crowned Christmas Day 800.

Disney is another perk of Paris. Went with a friend for her birthday.
