Smaller German Cities: Heidelberg, Baden-Baden, Blackforest & Tübingen

Fall 2018

It has been very enjoyable going to some of the smaller German cities. They tend to have more charm and you can find more unique places.

Less than an hour away from Stuttgart is the fine city of Heidelberg with one of the best castles in Germany.

Apothecary museum.

This is “Big Barrel” they filled it with wine and had wild parties.

This is one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken.

Somebody was getting married on the patio to the upper left with the view above.

The castle was bombed during WW2, now it is just bubbled.

Heidelberg is a University town and the University of Heidelberg use to have jurisdiction over its students. It was considered a rite of passage to get locked up for disorderly conduct or being too drunk.

Next stop was Baden-Baden. Best known for immaculate casinos and mineral spas. Baden- Baden is also blessed to be in the enchanting Blackforest.

Happened to be there during a music festival.

This is one of Baden-Baden’s world famous mineral spas. It is the only one to be entirely geothermal heated. I did not realize it would be full nude, but it was worth getting out of my comfort zone. I did not see any of the old ladies complaining.

I got in trouble for taking photos. Then I played one hand of blackjack, won, and left on top. The other players at the table looked at me like I was insane.

I took a 45 minute bus ride from Baden-Baden to get into the Black Forest. One of the best running locations of my life so far.

Came across an amusement park. Rode a mountain trolly, a big wheel, and shot some arrows.

Another great little German city only a short train ride from Stuttgart is Tübingen.

This was Roman territory.

Checked out a little old abby.

Lots of great places to check out around Germany.
