Fall 2018
One of the best things about living in Germany is how easy it is get around Europe. While I have mostly traveled by train and bus so far, here are a few places I have flown.
I went to Warsaw, Poland for a weekend to visit a Russian friend I had met in Singapore over the summer. She is afraid of flying, so she decided to overcome her fear by becoming a pilot. Poland is a nice place and more affordable than many other parts of Europe.
Warsaw is the capital of Poland and was obliterated during WW2. They have done a great job of restoring the city. It somewhat reminded me of Prague.
This dominating building was a gift to Poland from Russia. The exact same building can be found in several other cities.
This is a nice bit of design flare on the mall.
The next trip outside of Germany was to the United Kingdom. First stop, Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh Castle sits atop a hill in the middle of the city. Since castles are military fortresses, they are usually built on the high ground.
The flags were a nice touch in this cathedral.
Nice walk down the Royal Mile in Old Town.
My name is Colin Campbell Knox Secor. I am named after my ancestor Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll. Here lies Archibald Campbell of Argyll, so he would be an ancestor as well.
Inside the city you can go for a quick beautiful hike up Arthur’s seat.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse is where the Queen stays when she visits Edinburgh, which she does a few times each year.
This is a monument to Adam Smith. The Scottish economist known as “the father of economics,” and the originator of the concept of the “invisible hand” to guide markets supply and demand to equilibrium.
Edinburgh Castle. All who enter pass under the Latin phrase “Nemo Me Impune Lacessit.” Which means, “No one attacks me with impunity.”
As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I really appreciated this punny cookbook.
Scotland has a proud military history. The Scottish war museum was very well done and they have nice war memorials.
There is great men’s fashion in Edinburgh. This store dresses the Royal Family and the Judges of Scottland. It reminded me of the shop in The Kingsmen movies.
Prince William and I have the same coat.
This was a nice place to enjoy a Gin flight.
As a Campbell, this was interesting to see.
Victoria Street is full of interesting shops. J.K. Rowling use to live in Edinburgh. It is believed this street was for her inspiration for Diagon Alley.
Edinburgh is an awesome little city. Certainly on my radar for places I would consider living.
From Edinburgh, I took a train down to London, England. This shopping center has great modern architecture.
Lovely walk through Hyde Park.
Chinatown.
This mechanized ship would roll up and down the table before feasts. When the cannon fired the feast began!
Managed to score front row seats to see Hamilton. To say it was amazing would be an understatement.
The Goring is a wonderful hotel in Victoria. I really enjoyed coming here to read with proper English tea.
London if full of magnificent buildings and people.
It was nice to catch up with a college friend. Robbie is in great form.
There is a reason everybody loves London.
