Christmas in Maryland, New Year’s in New York, and a Stopover in Iceland

December and January 2020

It was really nice to be home for Christmas this year.

I saw my brother Jake making breakfast on a cast iron pan and asked him about it. I now have three and know the history of the industry dating back to WW1.

I think I saw Santa at Royal Farms. Everybody loves their chicken.

I love Christmas, especially when we host.

White Elephant is becoming a tradition.

A serious bird means serious business.

Mopsey gettin foxy.

Had a nice visit with Aunt Beth and her animals.

Longwood Gardens is amazing! It is the former estate of Pierre du Pont and is now a phenomenal botanical garden.

Headed up to NYC for NYE with my Tulane friends.

Stopped over Iceland on my way back to Germany. If you are going between North America and Europe, you may want to consider a stopover (extended layover) in Iceland, you can stay up to 7 days on the same ticket.

The food was absolutely a highlight, though I do not recommend raw Puffin.

Went for an Icelandic horse ride around a lava field a top Pyorta. Learned that the Icelandic horse is a unique breed most closely related to the Mongolian horse.

I don’t usually document food, but this may have been the best meal of my life.

The first round was a fish closely related to salmon. Decided to take pictures after I had eaten half of it.

Mink Whale, the burning wood chips underneath gave a nice smoky taste.

Duck

Our cook was definitely a descendant of Vikings.

Lobster roll

Some sort of white fish.

Goose

Lamb. All of the flavors on every plate went together so well.

A whole lot of delicious. If you go to Reykjavík, I highly recommend Grillmarkadurinn.

Drove an hour outside the city in these pretty awesome trucks to see the northern lights. This is the best picture I got.

We go way back.

Hunted a bear, chilled with Thor, rolled out. Iceland is dope.
